A boulangerie in my own home (I mean, a gal can dream)

It started with the bread. I am obsessed with bread. I’ve been baking bread for most of my life. Ever since I made my sourdough starter from scratch and started making my own baguettes and boules I found that there was a lot of creative expression that can take place in making sourdough. Not to mention there is a sort of rhythm to making the dough that really is calming.

Then came the name. I have a special tie to France, my family lives there, I have spent a great deal of time there, and obviously bread is gold there. And Zaza, well, my cool kick-ass niece named me that. I couldn’t not go with “Chez Zaza”. It embodies everything I love, while also sounding like a spot I’d definitely want to hang out.

I love a good branding exercise so I let the wheels turn and this is what came out of it. For packaging I sewed a cotton handkerchief with a small emblem of the boule on the corner, complete with a chain-stitched heart. Finished off with a hand-stamped notecard, fresh with a boule pun that my husband proudly took less than 1 minute to think of: “we are all boules in love”. Nailed it.
